In my opinion, Learning is a very long and complex process that takes part of our lives. It is also a hard process and at same time very interesting. I believe that the most important aspect is learning has no end. It is something that happens all the time. It is very interesting when you create or keep an image of a teacher on your mind. I myself try not to do that. I prefer to wait and see him/her way of teaching. But unfortunately I have created that kind of image into my mind since the first year I started studying English at the Elementary School.

I started studying English when I was a little child at the Primary School. I remember that the classes were very motivating and the teacher was very good. When I studied at Fortaleza, I learned all the basic things of the English Language. My first teacher was so pretty and young (I remember!), but I don’t remember her name. Her classes were very stimulating; she used all kinds of activities in which everybody had chances to participate. She was in fact, my best teacher at that moment (it is a strong recollection in my mind).

I guess that my first English teacher was one of the stimulus and motivation to study English at the University. She taught me English during 5 years. She gave me support to improve my English at that moment, she was very important to my future decisions. Before taking this course on line, I had no idea what communicative approach was. But, surely my first teacher used the communicative approach in her classes. It was impossible someone dislike her classes.

So I moved to BH, where I started studying at Secondary (High) School. Here, I studied in a public school, where the English Teaching was not so good. But I learned a lot too. I had four teachers, but my first one was the most important for me, because I learned a lot (her name was Cristina, she graduated at UFMG), she was very good as teacher, but not as person into the classroom. Everybody thought that, because she kept a strange distance from students, especially in the first days of class, when she had some quarrels with some students. Unfortunately she decided to give up teaching at that school, months before the end of the classes. Indeed she had not the qualities of a communicative teacher; however everybody agrees that she was very responsible.

Studying with Cristina, I learned, in fact, that it is really difficult to be a good teacher; because a good teacher must not only to be intelligent. A good teacher must be creative, use his/her imagination in the difficult situations and above all, a good teacher should be communicative.

In my point of view being a good teacher, involves a long and challenging process that requires intuition, a great ability of creativity and improvisation, responsibility and also implies a need to be constantly updated in terms of knowledge, new methodologies and strategies. I believe that since the moment we have all these kinds of thoughts in mind, teaching will be better and much more pleasant, consequently learning too.

Nowadays I believe that one of the best ways to learn and teach English is the social interaction where you can really communicate, exchange knowledge and experience. And I truly believe on it because that’s the way I’ve been learning English.
