The first contact I had with English was through reading a book called “How to learn English by yourself ”. Off course I didn’t learned anything, but this contact with the language arouse on me an interest on English language and culture.
I continued searching for information about the language reading poetries and songs lyrics, but I just started to study English when I was 17 years old and I made a course at SENAC. It was an English course focusing on Turism and the objective was to make pupils get verbal fluency on the language. There was classes with 8 students, and 5 days a week, 3 hours a day, we use to talk in English all the time, even outside the class. On this course, write skill was not very well explored. The professor was a kind of mediator, correcting mistakes and making conversation goes on. We use to watch videos with native speakers to learn accent and cultural environment, and every Friday we use to listen music, fulfilling gaps, trying to understand the meanings by the context.
When I get in college I realized I had an enormous deficiency on reading and writing skills and, until now, I’m trying to acquire fluency on reading and writing respecting the formal structure of the language. The way I found to improve myself was to read and study structures by myself .

Lots of Input can noticed in my process of acquire a new language. According to the text purposed, my process presented functional competence, as the process has a communication purpose; sociolinguistic competence as the teacher tried to create on us the hability to interpret the social meaning of the choice of linguist varieties and he usually presented us real situations for us to know how to behave in a certain situation in a appropriate way – we can also identify here Cultural Competence, as we had contact with the culture through videos and narratives about real situation the teacher lived on there (US); interactional competence as we worked with interaction in various situations within a given speech community and culture, also practicing body language, eye contact, and proximity to other people appropriately, and acting accordingly.
