My Language Learning History
I started learnignEnglish when I was 13 years old and I trully wanted to speak frequently.
As I am not a native speaker, sometimes it was difficult not to compare English to my mother toungue. At the beggining it was good to listen to people who spoke English effectivily and I always kept thinking that anytime in the future I could like them. It was hard for me to believe that they could speak English as well as in Portuguese. (these people helped me a lot because they were like role models for me). However, when I listened to music or watched a movie and I couldn’t understand even a word of what they were saying, I couldn’t believe I was able to learn a foreign language.
I took classes at CCLS course and They helped me to encourage myself that I could make English language possible. CCLS Course is basicly centered in repetition and sometimes students were bored because of that, most of the time the teacher tried to grasp our attention creating certain kinds of entertainment.
What I give for advice is that everybody is effectively able to speak English not because of the course he/she takes, but because of he/she own interests. It’s important to be engaged to extra class activities like reading novels, short stories, watching movies, TV programmes and people trying to speak without caring for people’s opinions. These are the things that helped me improve my English and what I think it is important to increase vocabulary and motivate students to learn English.
People who want to speak English should not only go to class and watch them. They should participate sharing ideas with their colleagues and of course making their time at home reading books, listening to CDs and doing what make them have fun.
