Language Learning History

My language learning history started when I first heard a friend of mine singing Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heavens Door”. It may sound weird but it’s true. I got really curious about this song, I was 10 years old, so I bought a “Guns n’ Roses” album wich had this song.

Afterwards, I started to listen to everything in English, from “Ramones” to “Michael Jackson”. I was really a fan os “Ramones”. My mother almost beat when I asked for more CD’s of them, I had 8 or 9 CD’s.

When I was at “8ª série” I started to have classes about English. It was (very) awesome because I had a good teacher and I had honwn most of the vocabulary reading lyrics. Since then, everything worked out. I could perceive, by studying grammar, how words got connected.

I kept going this way until the “cursinho”. I first tried psychology at UFXS, but (thank’s God) I didn’t succeed. Just because of 1 single point! I got very disappointed and decided that I would try English. I passed here and there (UFxS).

One thing that marked me a lot was the visit of some guys from Europe in my city. I didn’t know that I had enough vocabulary to have communication with them. After that, I realized that I had to study English for I will always love it. Here in university I had what I hadn’t, instructions to speak correctly and to be aware of the way of English Language in academic environment.
